Personality: Given a good day, Aolos seems very bright and outgoing, and actually has a bit of natural charm. Even when he's not having a particularly good day, he's able to put up a very convincing facade. However, every kind act of his has an ulterior motive, and his depraved idea of fun has people on his home world panic when they hear rumors of "Aries" being near. Due to his current struggle with his weakened magic, his suave facade breaks easier than normal, with his temper flaring and voice rising in frustration more often than he'd like.
Despite his current situation, he still has a gigantic ego, bordering on a god complex, and still does his best to manipulate any situation into one he's comfortable with, being above practically nothing for things to turn out how he envisions it. His mind is incredibly quick, and he treats any adversity much like chess, sizing up the challenge, and then thinking four moves ahead.
Speech Pattern: He speaks overly formally and quite like this. His speech is a bit archaic, and he enjoys using esoteric words from time to time. He's also no stranger to swearing, as his favorite word seems to be "damn."
Abilities: While he's not as frail and physically weak as most people tend to think of when they picture a mage, his strengths of course lie in his magic. He triggers his magic with a snap of his fingers or wave of his hand, and doesn't need his spellbooks out to cast, though the books themselves contain magic and help power up a spell, if need be. He's able to use very little of his magic right now, and relies on the following spells:
Illusion - This is Aolos's bread and butter. He typically disguises himself, both physically and vocally, to suit whatever needs he has at the moment. Coupled with his skill at acting, he's still fairly difficult to see through, despite his current weakness. Other uses include creating hallucinatory monsters, false walls, and whatever else he feels creative enough to do. Lastly, he's able to fade from sight and muffle his steps with this, in case he feels he should hide. Contained in Nugarum.
Shadow - A sub specialty is shadow magic, common in his homeland. The shadowy creatures and weapons he makes look convincingly real, and unlike his illusions, are capable of physical impact. He can also blind and bind foes, though these effects are extremely temporary now.
Flame - His back-up is conjuring fire from nothing. While the spell is straight-forward enough, he can use it to do anything from provide light to sear an enemy with a blast of fire. Contained in Nugarum.
Shield - A quickly-cast spell that deflects some physical attacks. Contained in Nugarum.
Regenerate - An emergency spell that heals wounds, but isn't very quick or potent. Contained in Adversi.
Blink - Teleports Aolos a small distance, though he's found out that this is a bit unreliable, and he winds up several feet off where he planned to go. Contained in Adversi.
Repair - Cleans and fixes just about any small or simple object. Easy to cast and useful when his gear gets damaged or bloodied. Contained in Adversi.
Drawbacks: Aolos's magic has practically been reset, and he's not happy about it at all. His spellbooks still have page upon page of magic, but his capability as a mage is lacking. The only sources of arcane energy he has left are the various trinkets he had on him at the time he arrived, and a small bit left in what is effectively his soul. The energy is able to restore itself given food and rest, but still never manages to grow as powerful as what Aolos is used to.
Arcane Addiction: His status as a high mage was certainly appropriate, but his constant use of magic has made his body used to the rushes of energy he constantly subjected himself to, and with his magic so severely diminished, his body has started to react poorly. Overexertion of his spells leave his small reserve of arcane energy near-empty, which triggers coughing, dizziness, numbness, exhaustion, and, in case of the reserve running completely dry, unconsciousness.
Magic Drain: Even though most magic users don't have their abilities neatly organized and classified into spells like he does, or even consider themselves mages, Aolos's dependence on magic led him to find a way to absorb energy from others' spells, and in desperate cases, such as when one's magic is inherent, the creatures themselves. His gauntlet, while also for self-defense, is magicked to nullify and drain the energy of any foreign (meaning any that isn't Aolos's) magic it comes into contact with. It is slightly impractical, as it relies on Aolos either being able to latch onto his target, or being quick enough to "block" a spell with his arm. Draining a magical target directly usually causes the same withdrawals that Aolos's arcane addicition does, as well as a stinging, burning pain where contact was made.
Inventory:
Magicked Gauntlet - Absorbs magic, and Aolos is fairly skilled with it as a weapon.
Glasses - Aolos's eyesight is nothing spectacular, so one of his first projects was to magick a pair of glasses to improve his vision. The glasses work spectacularly, but still don't help his inattentiveness. He does not appreciate losing his glasses.
Pearlglass - A slightly jagged piece of opaque blue glass with a pearly sheen to it. This piece of pearlglass hold a significant amount of energy, and has a massive capacity, which is where energy drained from others is stored. Were he able to top this off, so to speak, his powers would almost completely return.
